Major Loyd Baker is currently assigned as the Commander of the Narcotics Division.

Career

Major Baker joined the former Louisville Division of Police (LPD) in 1997. He served as a patrol officer and flex detective in the former Second District and as a district detective in the former Sixth District. He also served as a gang squad detective in the Street Crimes Unit. Baker was promoted to sergeant in 2005, where he supervised a patrol platoon, Impact Unit and Flex Platoon in the Third Division and the Canine Unit.

In 2009, Baker was promoted to lieutenant and assigned the Third Division. He also served as the commander of the Forensic Investigation Unit in the Major Crimes Division. After being promoted to major, he commanded the Third Division.

During his law enforcement career, Major Baker has received multiple Meritorious Unit Citations, the Exceptional Valor Award and the department’s Medal of Valor.

Education

Major Baker is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Administration with a minor in Asset Protection and Loss Prevention. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) 129th Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville and was named a dean’s scholar.
