William Hibbs

Major William Hibbs is currently assigned as the Commander of the Ninth Mobile Division.


In 1997, Hibbs joined the former Louisville Division of Police (LPD). He served as a patrol officer in the former Second and Fourth Districts of the LPD, as well as a Flex Detective in the former Second District and an Impact Detective in the Fifth Division, until becoming a Criminal Intelligence Detective in 2006. He was promoted to sergeant in 2010. He served as a sergeant of the First Division Mid-Watch Platoon, First Division Task Force and Major Crimes Forensic Unit.

In 2015, Hibbs was promoted to Lieutenant and served as one of the assistant commanders of the Third Division, the VIPER Unit and the Ninth Mobile Division.

Major Hibbs was the recipient of Louisville Metro Government Continuous Improvement Champion (2015), recipient of the first Distinguished Community Service Award (2012), recipient of several Meritorious Unit Citations and Exceptional Merit Awards and nominated for Officer of the Year in 1999.


Major Hibbs is a graduate of the University of Louisville and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officers Course.
