Major Paul Humphrey

Major Paul Humphrey is currently assigned as the Commander of the Training Division. He is responsible for overseeing the Recruitment and Selection Unit, the Basic Recruit Academy, the Firearms Training Unit, the Advanced Training Section and all certifications for instructors and curricula.


Humphrey began his career in 2006 with the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). He spent several years as a patrol officer in the Sixth and First Divisions, working primarily in the Newburg and Russell neighborhoods. He then spent three (3) years as a Housing Authority Liaison Officer (HALO) addressing street level crime in the Beecher Terrace and Dosker Manor housing complexes. After being promoted to sergeant, Humphrey served in the Fourth Division and the Professional Standards Unit (PSU). He returned to patrol as a lieutenant in the Second Division.

Humphrey joined the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team in 2010. He became the SWAT Team Commander in 2017, where he served for two (2) years. 


Major Humphrey has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from the University of Louisville (U of L) and is currently completing his Master of Science in Criminal Justice from U of L. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course.

Humphrey is a certified instructor for the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training and the National Tactical Officers Association.
