Once you receive a speeding ticket (traffic citation), you have several options.
- Appear in court (with or without an attorney) to contest the charges. To plead not guilty, you need to appear in court on the date listed on the citation.
- Apply for Drive Safe Louisville. To learn more, click here.
- Apply for Kentucky State Traffic School. To learn more, click here.
- Prepay the traffic citation (if eligible).
You can pay traffic citations at any driver’s license branch except for the Downtown Branch. (The Downtown Driver’s License Branch will refer you to the Hall of Justice where you can make a payment directly to District Court.) You must have the citation in order to make a payment. Payments must be made at least three (3) business days prior to your first court date. Payments can be made by phone at (866) 396-1751 or through the District Criminal/Traffic Division at (502) 595-4428. You may also make a payment in person at the District Criminal/Traffic Division at the Louis D. Brandeis Hall of Justice, 600 W. Jefferson St., Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Online payments can be made at ePay.
To prepay your ticket, use the worksheet that the officer gave you with your speeding citation. Find the violation amounts on the back and add to the court costs.
If you have questions, you can contact Jefferson District Court at 502-595-3060.
